A grant from the Foundation for Enhancing Communities (TFEC) kickstarted my Lunar New Year planning, followed by a generous offer from the downtown Harrisburg theater company, Open Stage, which agreed to open its space for the celebration. I spoke with TheBurg about how this celebration’s vision came to life.

Elementary Coffee Co. recently released “HAAPI Mornings,” a Vietnamese-inspired coffee, in partnership with the Harrisburg Asian American Pacific Islander (HAAPI) group. I spoke with The Burg about this partnership.

I sat down with Matt Maisel of What’s the Word? Harrisburg! and Nancy Moya and Amy Kimmel of PAIRWN to talk about the immigrant and refugee populations in Pennsylvania and how PAIRWN has supported these communities in Pennsylvania for over 20 years.

Feeling Asian American explores the emotional journeys of five individuals, who navigated their way through their own racial reckonings in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic. During the height of anti-Asian hate that not only continues to ripple out today, but also brings up echoes of the past, they found community, connection, and self.

The Unity March, a historic march organized by AAPI communities, called for socioeconomic and cultural equity, racial justice, and solidarity. The Washingtonian featured the stories of those who awaken and rise for unity, including mine.

This speech was written and presented at the Make Us Visible Rally on May 23, 2022 in support of PA H.B. 1917 to provide Asian American & Pacific Islander history instruction in the Pennsylvania K-12 Education System.

Karen Hendricks invited three Harrisburg-area personalities, all featured within TheBurg magazine’s May issue, to share more about how we celebrate our culture. I spoke about the Harrisburg Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage group known as HAAPI and our upcoming celebration.

As a board member and gala committee member of the PA Immigrant & Refugee Women’s Network, I shared 20 stories celebrating the resilience of immigrant and refugee women.

TheBurg, a local publication, featured a story about the AAPI community I created in Central PA and the AAPI Heritage Month Celebration that was being planned to bring a spotlight to the AAPI cultures in the region.

I joined Hattie B. McCarter in a conversation exploring multiracial and multicultural families, raising race conscious children, the importance of our names, and seeking authentic spaces.

I joined Hattie B. McCarter for a brave conversation about anti-Blackness, anti-Asianness, appreciation versus appropriation, and the forgotten AAPI stories in U.S. history.

At a community vigil for the AAPI community, I shared the stories of four Korean-American women who were working at Gold Spa on March 16th, 2021: Soon Jung Park, Hyun Jung Grant, Sunja Kim, and Yong Ae Yue. By saying their names and learning about how they lived, we began the process of healing together.

As the senior vice president of the Central PA Korean Association, I led the executive committee’s efforts in the creation and publication of the very first newsletter.

As GOA’s Associate Director of Student Equity and Success, I facilitated a discussion with a panel of GOA teachers. We discussed how to design equitable learning experiences that cultivate belonging and support students’ well-being.

As the head of school for St. Stephen’s Episcopal School, I redesigned the annual appeals to include stories of those a part of the school community.

I took part in Untitled’s story slam and was crowned the Story Slam Super Bowl winner of 2016 with my stories on “Only in Harrisburg” and “Unexpected.”
